Feeling somewhat shallow, but nevertheless firm, in my defense of the importance of book covers, I felt vindicated by this post on Chasing Ray reviewing cover art (and pointing me toward some good reads). I do love this blog!
Love the cover post! Travis at 100 Scope notes http://100scopenotes.com/ writes a lot about covers too. You are right when you point out that covers DO matter! It is not a shallow concept at all, particularly when dealing with kids who have all kinds of knee-jerk reactions to visuals.
I think the use of cover art is a major reason I chose Shelfari. I also love that you can select which cover is on the book you're reading when there are multiple covers. I am appalled at the number of Follet bound books with truly awful covers - I feel like they are designed to discourage reading!
